Kids and Chiropractic

Children grow in leaps in bounds, and especially the first 10 years of life is so important when it comes to brain and body development. The spine and nervous system is especially important, as they learn and integrate a lot of new things during this time that will often lead to long-term problems if left undetected and untreated.

For most people it is pretty obvious that things like poor posture, back pain, neck pain and headaches might be signs of spinal dysfunction. However, there might be other, ‘silent’ signs that your child has poor spinal function that can be often be missed. Here is a list of the most common things to look out for:

  • A head shape that is uneven or flattened; one ear might be higher than the other or one eye smaller than the other.

  • Uneven shoulder height, waistline or a rotated rib cage

  • Shoes that wear out unevenly or one leg appears shorter than the other

  • Clicking jaw or joints that crack; either on their own or elicited by the child

  • Fatigue and sleep issues

  • Poor concentration and hyperactivity

  • Asymmetrical movement patterns with arms and legs

  • Recurrent colds, fevers or ear infections

  • Late stage bedwetting

If one, or a number of these signs are present we recommend a formal spinal assessment with a Chiropractor. These signs can be indicative of a number of issues but as always, early detection and intervention can be key to improving future outcomes and minimising any impact on long-term development.
