Debunking the Myths of Aging

Perhaps the most well-established myth is that mental and physical deterioration are inevitable as we grow older. To some extent this is true. Yes, your cells do age as time goes by, combined with an accumulation of life stressors and injuries and with that comes things like, less elastic skin, grey hair and some wear and tear. But too often ‘age’ is used as an excuse for a decline in health and very often masked with an array of medications and other aids. The World Health Organisation says that much of the decline in vigour during old age is attributed to people expecting to decline and how society perceives the role of older people.

Advancing in age comes with a lot of benefits, wisdom, less working hours working and more time for leisure. What if we started celebrating this as a time to look after ourselves even better than we did when we were younger? Looking after our health is a lot like taking care of a car, and as we grow older, we can be well-described as ‘vintage’. Which one of the below examples do you wish to be?
