How to Strengthen your Immunity, Naturally

Sun and Vitamin D3

One of the biggest ‘discoveries’ that has been made in the past couple of years is the importance of healthy sun exposure on our skin! The sun allows us to transform fat molecules in our bodies to Vitamin D3, which is vital for the function of other processes in our bodies (allowing calcium to be absorbed in our bodies) and also for an appropriate immune response. When there is a lack of sunshine, we recommend supplementing with Vitamin D3.

Get enough sleep

When we sleep our bodies have a chance to recover and repair itself, when we are sleep deprived our T-fighter cells go down, making us more susceptible to germs. We also get a better fever response when we sleep, fevers are a very important part in fighting infections and for our health in general.

Eat more whole plant foods

Whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes are rich in nutrients and antioxidants that may give you an upper hand against harmful pathogens. Meanwhile, the fibre in plant foods feeds your gut microbiome. A robust gut microbiome can improve your immunity and help keep harmful pathogens from entering your body via your digestive tract. Furthermore, fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrients like vitamin C, which may reduce the duration of the common cold.

Supplementation

There will also be times that you feel that you need extra help, this is a good time to consider taking supplements. Apart from taking Vitamin C and Zinc, there is great research to support the use of supplements like N-Acetyl Cysteine and Quercetin to decrease inflammation and improve the immune response. We recommend a visit to GoVita in Batemans Bay for specialised advice on which supplements will be best for you.
